Equal Access to Technology for Special Needs Students

Joe Coto celebrates the passage of AB 1742 with students at a local school campus

Assembly member Joe Coto (D-San Jose) introduced a bill that passed the state Assembly (76-0) and the Senate (34-0), Ab 1742 will broaden the kinds of “technology” available in the classroom for students with special needs.

The passage of this law paves the road for schools to consider and incorporate the use of technology when devising teaching strategies and planning Individualized Education Programs.

Technology based learning tools (i.e. iPad) have shown to be effective in aiding students learn skills for use in future jobs and in independent living.
